IAPSM-WB stands as a distinguished state-level chapter of the esteemed Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (IAPSM). Established in 1974 and formally registered under the Societies Registration Act, XXI of 1860 in Delhi, with Registration No. 14240, the association embodies a commitment to excellence in public health as a non-profit professional entity with members of globally acclaimed experts in Epidemiology, Community Medicine, Health Management, Health Promotion, and Family Medicine. With an unwavering dedication to public health enrichment, IAPSM-WB serves as a catalyst for the formulation of evidence-based public health policies. Through its multifaceted endeavours in education, research, and community medicine programs, it cultivates an environment conducive to the exchange of cutting-edge insights and knowledge dissemination among its esteemed members, contributing significantly to the advancement of global public health discourse. It contributes extensively towards development of graduates and postgraduate medical professionals with competence in epidemiology, public health and community medicine. Journal of Comprehensive Health (JCM), the official publication of Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine, West Bengal Chapter, provides an open access, peer-reviewed, international evidence-base, since July, 2013. The first State conference hosted by IAPSM West Bengal chapter was held in 1982-83 and the legacy continues unabated.
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Kalyani,
AIIMS Kalyani was established under Phase IV of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, is a premier public medical institution located in Saguna, Kalyani, West Bengal. Approved by the Union Cabinet in 2015 with a project cost of ₹1,754 crores, it was officially notified in January 2018 and became operational with its first MBBS batch on September 4, 2019. The 180-acre campus features a 960-bed super-specialty hospital with 34 departments, offering advanced healthcare and fostering medical research. The institute provides a wide range of academic programs including MBBS, B.Sc. Nursing, MD/MS, MDS, DM/MCh, and M.Sc. Nursing. Outpatient services began in January 2021, followed by the inauguration of inpatient services in February 2024.
Under the leadership of Executive Director Prof. (Dr.) Ramji Singh and President Dr. Chitra Sarkar, AIIMS Kalyani actively integrates community engagement into its operations. The institute received state approval in 2020 to utilize PHC Sreenagar (under BPHC Chakdaha, Nadia district) as its Rural Health Training Centre and an Urban Primary Health Centre in Kalyani Municipality as its Urban Health Training Centre. These centers serve as platforms for undergraduate and postgraduate training, teaching, and research, and aim to evolve into model healthcare training facilities in collaboration with the State Government.
